I’m Patrick – founder and CEO of Hobbs Security

Since 2011, I’ve honed my skills as a security researcher, vulnerability analyst and technician. I’ve had the privilege of helping hundreds of clients and security professionals protect the enterprise by improving security practices, learning more about their tools and hardware, and observing security from different perspectives. However, over time I’ve seen a disturbing trend in the industry: complacency.

In order to understand why this is, we have to take a trip back to the 16th century. Around this time, locksmiths formed their own guilds to differentiate their trade from blacksmiths. Trade secrets were passed down from generation to generation and strictly guarded. Some of this secrecy has spilled over into the security trade culture of today. Here’s the problem: now, in the 21st century, we have a free and ubiquitous exchange of information through the internet. There are no more trade secrets. The information is out there for all to see, including bad actors. Nevertheless, the security industry refuses to revise their designs appropriately. With Hobbs Security, I hope to bridge the gap between the “security through obscurity” way of thinking and the digital age.

Hobbs Security offers high quality training that gives security professionals the knowledge and tools needed to protect their organization against modern threats. Our training offers low-cost solutions for common vulnerabilities and introduces the concept of protection-in-depth, a layered approach where each layer will compensate for another’s shortcomings.
